Black label of Peter Lehman Shiraz Wine

Australia is home to some of the best wineries in the world and definitely many of the world’s best winemakers. One of these winemakers is Peter Lehmann, described as the country’s most innovative makers of Australian wine. Because of his ingenuity, his wines have become synonymous with the name Barossa Valley, and he was constantly labeled as the ‘Baron of the Barossa’. He may have passed away already, but he will forever remain a legend in the world of Australian winemaking. Peter Lehmann had produced thousands of wines in his lifetime, many of which have received awards upon awards, both locally and internationally. If you are new to the world of wines and are looking for a brand to add to your collection, Peter Lehmann wines should be on top of your list. Here are top 3 wines made by the Baron that you shouldn’t miss.

For several years now, Stonewell Shiraz has been regarded as the standard for Barossa Valley Shiraz, and the difference is evident especially when it is aligned with its peers. There is no doubt this wine is the best of each vintage and is arguably the world’s best Shiraz. The secret perhaps of the excellence of the Stonewell Shiraz is the fact that the grapes used to create it is picked from low-yielding vineyards. Most of these vineyards have been planted more than a century ago and produce thin branches and tiny berries. To the nose, this wine offers a complex aroma of black fruits, vanilla oak, and dark chocolate. As soon as it touches the palate, it explodes into a combination of dark chocolate and prunes. It leaves sweet scents and is somewhat chewy and offers a very long finish. Truly a wine of excellent structure, the Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz 2008 is definitely one wine you shouldn’t miss.

This is another Shiraz from the Baron’s vineyard you should put on top of your list. Considered as a household staple now, this flavorsome Shiraz offers a taste that is both unyielding and piquant. This Shiraz shows the bold, rich fruit flavours Barossa wines are famous for, and at the same time is a lot more refined and elegant to drink. It can go a little bit longer in the cellar as well. One main reason you shouldn’t ignore this wine is the fact that it has once been considered for export to the UK. It offers a blast of black berry fruits and classic Barossa spice, but at the same time is proportionate and very easy to drink.

Aside from the fact that this Shiraz is produced by a 5-star James Halliday-rated winery, it also comes from the Light Pass district of Barossa, which is known for producing soft and silky Shiraz grapes. Just like its Back to Barossa peer, this wine is also spicy, but at the same time has flexible texture and superb drinkability. This wine offers some hints of nutmeg and cinnamon as well as dark plums and some supple spicy notes to the nose. Just like the rest of Peter Lehmann Shiraz wines, the Light Pass Shiraz 2008 is a true expression of the vineyard from which it is produced.
